An Australian national, Hayden Peter Warszewski, has come under scrutiny after allegedly defrauding a local company of US$500,000 in a suspected mining deal.

Prominent businessman and politician James Pande is among those reportedly affected by the alleged scheme.

According to information gathered, Warszewski claimed to own antimony mines in Kwekwe and Mberengwa. He allegedly entered into an agreement to supply antimony to a company linked to Pande but failed to deliver on the promise.

Pande alleges that despite repeated assurances, Warszewski did not supply any of the mineral. Instead, he is said to have travelled extensively, including trips to Thailand, while spending large sums of money.

“He claimed he could produce up to 5,000 tonnes of antimony per week, but months passed without any delivery,” said Pande.

Reports further indicate that Warszewski had been staying at Antelope Park in Gweru before being located by Pande and his associates.

Following his discovery, Warszewski allegedly signed an acknowledgement of debt and agreed to repay the US$500,000 within seven days.

Pande, a well-known figure in business and politics, has also been active in community initiatives, including supporting sports development. Recently, he donated football equipment to Masvingo United.
