ZIMBABWE MOURNS AS “SKORO” DIES AT 54

Zimbabwe’s arts industry has been plunged into mourning following the death of veteran actor Aleck Zulu, widely recognised for his iconic role as “Skoro” in the popular television drama Amakorokoza. He was 54.

Zulu’s death was confirmed by fellow arts practitioner Memory Kumbota, although the cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

Rising to prominence in the early 2000s, Zulu became a household name through his portrayal of the streetwise and memorable Skoro, a character that resonated with audiences across the country and helped cement Amakorokoza as one of Zimbabwe’s most celebrated television productions.

The series, produced and directed by the late legendary playwright Cont Mhlanga, broke new ground in local storytelling and remains a cultural touchstone in Zimbabwe’s film and theatre landscape.

Beyond Amakorokoza, Zulu contributed to several theatre productions and television projects, including the drama series Sister Theresa, showcasing his versatility and enduring presence in the industry.

Tributes have begun pouring in from across the arts sector, with colleagues and fans remembering him as a dedicated performer whose work left a lasting impact on Zimbabwean entertainment.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in due course.
