Government, Volunteers Strengthen Ties at Good Deeds Day Event
Zimbabwe joined the global community in celebrating Good Deeds Day on Friday at City Bowling in Harare Gardens, bringing together government officials, community leaders, and volunteers, marking 10 years of the initiative locally and 20 years worldwide.
The Deputy Minister of Women Affairs, Hon. J. Mhlanga, was the guest of honour, representing the Minister, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa. The event focused on the growth, impact, and future of the initiative in Zimbabwe.
In her speech, Hon. Mhlanga said the milestone shows that Zimbabwe is part of a bigger global effort. This dual milestone reminds us that our local efforts are part of a global movement that has inspired millions across continents to embrace service and compassion.
“Small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Each act, no matter how small, has contributed to building a stronger, more compassionate Zimbabwe and a more connected, caring world. It is important to work together as communities and government to drive development.
Citizens have played a key role in supporting communities where government efforts are limited. Where the government’s hand cannot reach, you have done it for us; all the wonderful people have done it for the government,” Hon. Mhlanga said.
She highlighted the need for inclusive development, especially empowering women and vulnerable groups.
“We must not leave anybody or any place behind; women, who make up 52 per cent of the population, remain a priority through financial and technical support programmes,” she added.
The event ended with a call for Zimbabweans to continue doing good deeds beyond the annual celebration and make kindness part of everyday life.
Good Deeds Day is a global movement that promotes volunteerism and acts of kindness. Over the past decade, it has grown in Zimbabwe through partnerships with government and civic organisations.
The initiative has supported vulnerable communities, strengthened families, and encouraged people to practise kindness in their daily lives
