Nyarai Munyanyi, wife of prominent Zimbabwean hip-hop artist Ti Gonzi, has publicly expressed her gratitude to the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) for the positive impact their rehabilitation programmes have had on her husband.

In a heartfelt message, Munyanyi praised the institution not only for its custodial role but also for instilling a sense of discipline and self-reliance in the award-winning rapper.

She noted that the structured environment has led to a significant shift in the artist’s daily habits, observing that Ti Gonzi has embraced a routine of waking up early and taking personal responsibility for his own needs, such as preparing his own breakfast.

“A big shout-out to the ZPCS… making sure [those who have erred] are correcting their mistakes to follow the right channels and abide by the law,” Munyanyi said.

She humorously added that he is now “running his water for bathing himself without asking anyone,” a marked change in his level of independence.

Beyond practical life skills, Munyanyi highlighted a spiritual and physical transformation. She mentioned that the “Zvenyu” hitmaker is frequently seen with a Bible and noted his improved physical health, crediting the strict regulations for his stronger appearance.

In a bold comparison, she suggested that the structured discipline of the ZPCS environment has proven more effective for his personal growth than previous efforts, remarking that “Jeri riri nani pane rehab” (Prison is better than rehab).

The ZPCS has increasingly shifted toward a correctional and rehabilitative model, aiming to reintegrate individuals into society as disciplined citizens. Munyanyi’s testimony serves as a high-profile endorsement of the success of these institutional programmes.
