Prominent traditional healer and philanthropist Gogo Chihoro is set to celebrate Zimbabwean culture through Dandaro na Gogo Chihoro, an all-night gathering bringing together mbira music, traditional dance and indigenous knowledge.
The cultural celebration will take place on September 25, 2026, at a venue along the Harare–Shamva Road, beginning at 6pm and continuing until the following morning.
The entertainment line-up features contemporary musician Andy Muridzo alongside Texas Tekenya, Singue Simboti and Nerwande Mbira.
Beyond the performances, the programme will include hucherwa hwepasi, traditional dances, rural business exhibitions, cultural education and celebrations of community achievements.
Gogo Chihoro, whose real name is Memory Madamburi, has previously demonstrated her commitment to Zimbabwean music by supporting artists beyond religious and cultural boundaries.
In May 2022, she attracted national attention after purchasing a copy of gospel musician Mathias Mhere’s Thanksgiving album for US$2,000 during its launch at Rainbow Towers in Harare. Her support for Mhere carried a personal connection. The gospel musician had reportedly been mentoring her young son, Gidza Boy, who was pursuing Zimdancehall music.
Despite coming from different religious backgrounds, Gogo Chihoro said music had brought their families together. She argued that religious differences should not prevent people from supporting one another, describing Mhere as part of her family.
That gesture established her as more than a cultural practitioner: it positioned her as a patron willing to financially support Zimbabwean musicians and encourage emerging talent.
Through Dandaro na Gogo Chihoro, she is now turning her attention to the preservation and promotion of mbira music—one of Zimbabwe’s most important indigenous art forms.
The event is expected to provide a platform where entertainment meets cultural education, allowing younger generations to experience traditional music, dances and practices in a lively social setting.
With performances continuing until morning, the gathering promises an energetic celebration of identity, music and ancestral heritage.
