The Government of Zimbabwe is considering a new policy that could ban children under the age of 18 from using popular social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.

The proposal was announced on Sunday by the Minister of Information Communication Technology, Tatenda Mavetera, during an address in Karoi. She said the main aim of the policy is to protect young people from dangers found on social media.
According to the minister, many children are exposed to online risks such as cyberbullying, harmful content, online predators, and misinformation. By restricting access to these platforms, the government hopes to create a safer digital environment for minors.
However, the proposal has already sparked debate among citizens, parents, and technology experts. Some people support the idea, saying it will help protect children from the negative effects of social media. Others believe that banning children may not be the best solution.
