Read E-PaperThe development follows a Cabinet meeting chaired by Rwandan President Paul Kagame earlier this week, during which Rwanda’s government approved Rushwaya’s appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Zimbabwe to Rwanda.
In a statement, the Rwandan government confirmed that Rushwaya would be based in Kigali.
“Cabinet granted agrément to the proposed Ambassadors as follows: Ms. Helliate Rushwaya, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Zimbabwe to the Republic of Rwanda, with residence in Kigali,” read the communiqué.
Rushwaya is expected to take over from Charity Manyeruke, marking a change in Zimbabwe’s diplomatic representation in the East African country.
Her anticipated appointment comes as Zimbabwe continues to make changes to its diplomatic postings.
Rushwaya currently chairs the ZBC Board, having been appointed to the position in 2024 by then Information Minister Jenfan Muswere.
Her move to the diplomatic service would see her leave the broadcasting corporation’s board leadership for a new role representing Zimbabwe in Rwanda.
