A director of a Harare-based solar energy company has appeared before the courts on allegations of fraud involving solar batteries worth more than US$24,000.
Panashe Kajama (28) appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Friday alongside his company, facing charges linked to an alleged fraudulent transaction involving solar equipment.
According to the prosecution, Kajama approached Sinociber Group Private Limited on May 13 and placed an order for over 60 solar batteries valued at US$31,360.
The State alleges that he represented that he had sufficient funds available and would settle the full amount once the goods were delivered.
Based on those assurances, the supplier reportedly delivered the batteries. However, prosecutors claim that only US$7,000 was paid, leaving an outstanding balance of US$24,360.
Court documents further allege that Kajama repeatedly assured the supplier that the remaining amount would be paid but later failed to honour the commitments and became difficult to contact.
The matter is still before the courts, and Kajama is expected to return to court on July 13 for further proceedings.
