Hardrock FC have suspended their chief executive, Kudzanai Hove, after his arrest in connection with the crowd violence that led to the abandonment of Sunday’s Premier Soccer League encounter against Dynamos FC at Chahwanda Stadium.
In a statement, the club said Hove would remain suspended indefinitely while investigations continue.
“Hardrock FC leadership has resolved to suspend Mr Hove for an indefinite period pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation,” said club communications and media liaison officer Bruce Chikuni.
The club also denounced the disorder that marred the fixture.
“We strongly condemn all acts of violence and vandalism. Such conduct is contrary to the values of the club and has no place in football,” Chikuni said.
Hove, aged 44, becomes the fifth person to be arrested following the disturbances, which reportedly left seven people injured and admitted to hospital, while parts of the newly constructed stadium were damaged.
The unrest broke out after Hardrock were awarded a disputed penalty that levelled the score at 1-1 after a prolonged stoppage.
Tensions quickly escalated as supporters from both sides hurled objects at each other before the chaos spread onto the field, resulting in the match being called off.
