Read E-PaperThe vital project, implemented by Government in partnership with Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH) and with technical expertise from Government engineers, will serve Mwacheta Primary School, Mwacheta Secondary School and the surrounding community, ending years of water challenges that affected learning, health and hygiene.
Addressing hundreds of villagers and party supporters who are the direct beneficiaries of the scheme, Hon. Gata said the project was a direct investment in the future of the children.
“Water is an investment in education. This is not just a borehole or a tank, it is a classroom, it is a textbook, it is a future.
“Where water flows, learning grows. Our learners will now spend less time fetching water and more time in class, and that is how we build a knowledgeable and skilled nation,” said Hon. Gata.
She said that water is the foundation of life itself and a fundamental right for every citizen.
“Water is life. Without it, there is no health, no dignity, no development.
“This solar-powered scheme is proof that Government, working with partners like Welt Hunger Hilfe, is committed to ensuring that no community is left behind in the provision of basic services.”
She further described water as a critical weapon in the fight against poverty, noting that the scheme would unlock economic opportunities for families in Ward 16.

“Water is a barrier to poverty. When a community has reliable water, it can produce food, generate income and build wealth.
“This project is an empowerment tool. It gives our people the power to feed themselves, to sell surplus produce and to send their children to school. It speeds up the Constituency in attaining the set SDGs by Government and the country.”
Hon. Gata said the initiative was in line with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 to see a healthy nation and a productive education sector.
“His Excellency, President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, has a clear vision, a healthy nation and a productive education sector by 2030.
“This project is a direct contribution to that vision. A healthy child learns better and a productive school feeds the nation.”
The community applauded the strong partnership for development, which is delivering real change in line with Vision 2030.
With the new solar-powered system, school gardens are expected to thrive, health and hygiene standards will improve, and the girl child will have the dignity she deserves.
It is envisaged that communities living close to the water source will engage in productive horticultural projects and livestock rearing, making self-reliance the new normal.
