HARARE – Government has called for increased home-grown innovation as Zimbabwe seeks to accelerate digital transformation and strengthen the use of technology across the economy.

Read E-PaperSpeaking at the 2026 POTRAZ Innovation Expo and Conference, Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services Tatenda Mavetera said local innovation would be critical in driving the country’s digital development.
The Minister highlighted Artificial Intelligence, digital skills, cybersecurity and the commercialisation of locally developed technologies as key areas requiring greater attention.
She also underscored the need to close the digital divide by expanding access to technology and ensuring that more Zimbabweans benefit from the country’s digital transformation.
“Government was also prioritising child online protection and equipping learners with digital devices to improve access to technology and digital learning,” Minister Mavetera said.
The conference also placed emphasis on supporting innovators and creating opportunities for locally developed technologies to move from ideas into commercially viable products and services.
More than US$57,000 in grants and prizes was awarded to innovators during the event, as Government continues to promote technology-driven development.
The support is expected to encourage innovators to develop solutions to local challenges while contributing to economic growth, job creation and greater digital inclusion.
“Zimbabwe’s digital transformation agenda should be driven by local talent and innovation, with technology playing a central role in improving services and creating new economic opportunities,” she added.
