Muvevi was found guilty of killing Nyarai Round, who was murdered in Eastlea in November 2022, Wedza prophet Chrispen Kanerusine, popularly known as Mubvana, Wedza Police Station officer-in-charge Inspector Maxwell Hove, and Munashe Majani.
He was also handed a 10-year prison term for each of the four attempted murder charges. The victims in those cases included a detective and a school employee in Mutare.
During the proceedings, Muvevi reportedly argued that goblins or evil spirits were tormenting him and claimed he was mentally unwell.
However, the court dismissed his defence after State medical experts reportedly concluded that, despite suffering from mild to moderate psychosis, he was aware of his actions.
His escape to Mozambique after the killings was also considered by the court as an indication that he understood the consequences of his conduct.
In his sentencing remarks, Justice Mandaza reportedly described Muvevi as a “sadist and psychopath”, adding that the public would be safer with him behind bars.
The four life sentences, together with the additional 40 years imposed for attempted murder, mark the conclusion of the sentencing process in the case.
