Harare – Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Soda Zhemu, has announced that Cabinet received and noted an update on the Mining Cadastral Registration System during a post-Cabinet briefing held in Harare.
Addressing journalists after the Cabinet meeting, Dr. Zhemu said the Mining Cadastral Registration System is expected to improve competitiveness within Zimbabwe’s mining sector and attract increased investment through strengthened governance in the administration of mining rights.
He said the system is designed to enhance transparency, efficiency and accountability in the allocation and management of mining titles, thereby creating a more conducive investment environment for both local and foreign investors.
“The Cabinet received and noted the update on the Mining Cadastral Registration System, which will improve competitiveness in the mining industry in order to attract increased investment through strengthened governance in the administration of mining rights,” said Dr. Zhemu.

According to the update, the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development currently maintains a repository of more than 60,000 mining licences and permits. These include blocks of claims, special grants, mining leases, exclusive prospecting orders and mining sites, among other permits.
The introduction of the Mining Cadastral Registration System is expected to streamline the administration of these mining rights and improve the management of the country’s mineral resources.
Government has identified mining as one of the key sectors driving economic growth, with reforms aimed at improving investor confidence, enhancing transparency and increasing the contribution of the sector to national development.
