Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan is reportedly travelling to Zimbabwe to pay her respects following the death of businessman Wicknell Chivayo, his wife Lucy Muteke, two pilots and an aide in a helicopter crash.

The visit was first reported by journalist Hopewell Chin’ono on Tuesday and has since been confirmed.

Chivayo had established close relationships with several African leaders, including President Samia, Kenyan President William Ruto and Eswatini’s King Mswati III.

His links to Tanzania also extended to business, with the businessman involved in the development of a hotel project in the country.

President Samia’s reported visit highlights the regional relationships Chivayo built during his lifetime and the connections he maintained with political and business leaders across Africa.
