Young Warriors Take First-Leg Advantage Over Mauritius

Zimbabwe’s Young Warriors made a positive start to their U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 qualifying campaign with a 2-0 victory over Mauritius in the first leg of their first-round tie on Wednesday.

David Chigwada opened the scoring in the 35th minute, putting Zimbabwe ahead with a deflected effort as the Young Warriors went into the break leading 1-0.

Nisbert Muzenda doubled Zimbabwe’s advantage in the 60th minute, giving the hosts a two-goal cushion heading into the second leg.

The result gives Zimbabwe an important advantage ahead of the return fixture against Mauritius on 6 October, when the Young Warriors will look to complete the job and progress to the next stage of the qualifying campaign.

The U-23 AFCON qualification tournament also forms part of the pathway towards qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
