ZEC Declares ZANU PF’s Nyamundunda Elected Unopposed in Marondera Ward 9

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has officially declared ZANU PF’s Charles Ndawona Nyamundunda as the elected councillor for Ward 9 in Marondera Municipality following the withdrawal of his only opponent.

According to a notice issued by ZEC’s Chief Elections Officer, Simbarashe Tongayi, Alice Machingauta of the MDC-T party—who had been nominated to run in the by-election set for 13 September 2025—formally pulled out of the race.

With no remaining challengers, Nyamundunda was automatically elected in accordance with Section 126(2) of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13].

The announcement, which took effect on 20 August 2025, concluded the by-election process for Ward 9 ahead of the scheduled voting day.
