Zimbabwe and the United Arab Emirates have moved to deepen their relations after signing a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations in New York on Wednesday.

It comes as Zimbabwe and the UAE continue to strengthen economic ties, including negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
The CEPA is expected to help increase trade, investment and market access between the two countries.
For Zimbabwe, stronger relations with the UAE could create more opportunities for local businesses to access the UAE market and attract investment into key sectors such as mining, agriculture, energy, infrastructure and technology.
The UAE is already an important market for Zimbabwean exports, particularly minerals and agricultural products. Stronger trade relations could therefore help Zimbabwe increase exports and earn more foreign currency.
The partnership could also open opportunities for UAE companies to invest in Zimbabwe, potentially supporting new projects and creating employment.
The political agreement could further improve cooperation between the two countries on regional and international matters, including issues discussed at the United Nations.
Zimbabwe and the UAE have said their partnership will be based on mutual respect, sovereign equality and dialogue.
For Zimbabwe, the main focus will now be on turning the stronger diplomatic relationship into practical economic benefits for businesses, investors and ordinary citizens.
