The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has paid US$23,500 to Bindura resident Nqobile Ndlovu following a court case arising from his assault by soldiers during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020.
Ndlovu was reportedly attacked by four soldiers while they were enforcing lockdown regulations in April 2020.
Following the assault, he was taken to Bindura Hospital, where the soldiers allegedly left him at the entrance.
Ndlovu subsequently took legal action over the incident, resulting in the High Court awarding him US$23,500 in damages.
The compensation covered pain and suffering, nervous shock, disfigurement, loss of earnings and future medical expenses.
Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights confirmed on September 14, 2026 that the payment had been made.
The settlement brings to an end a six-year legal battle stemming from the lockdown-era assault.
The case highlights the legal consequences that can arise from the conduct of security forces while enforcing emergency measures, particularly where allegations of excessive force are raised.
The payment follows the High Court’s determination that Ndlovu was entitled to compensation for the injuries and losses arising from the assault.
