A modern science laboratory at Gosha Secondary School in Murewa West Constituency, Mashonaland East Province, has reached 80 percent completion, ending more than two decades of disadvantage for a community that has long been sidelined from quality science education.

The facility is being funded and supported with materials by Hon. MP Cde Farai Jere, whose broader programme is transforming secondary schools across the constituency with science laboratories. Once completed and equipped, the laboratory will allow students to conduct experiments, undertake practical assessments and prepare for ZIMSEC examinations that include practicals, while teachers gain access to modern instruction methods and learners- including girls-are encouraged to pursue STEM subjects.

The development is expected to produce future doctors, nurses, engineers, agricultural experts, scientists and innovators from the rural community, in line with the Second Republic’s drive to promote education, skills, research and technology under President His Excellency Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.

Speaking on the project, Hon. Jere said the laboratory was part of a deliberate push to ensure no child is left behind regardless of where they come from.

“The construction of this science laboratory is not just about bricks and mortar, it is about giving the children of Gosha and Murewa West the same opportunities as those in the cities to dream bigger, to experiment, to discover and to build the future they deserve. For over two decades this community was disadvantaged, but that ends now,” he said.

He said an educated community was the foundation of lasting development.

“We cannot talk about developing Murewa West while leaving our children behind. An educated community is a powerful community, it is the community that produces doctors, engineers and scientists who come back to solve the challenges we face here at home. That is why I am investing in education infrastructure first and foremost,” said Hon. Jere.

The legislator said the project dovetails with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and Vision 2030.

“This laboratory is firmly in line with the National Development Strategy 2 and President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030. We are building a prosperous upper-middle-income society, and that society will be built by young people armed with knowledge, skills and innovation. Every dollar we put into this facility today is an investment in Zimbabwe’s future,” he said.

Hon. Jere said the project also advances Heritage-Based Education 5.0, which emphasises the transformation of knowledge into innovation, goods and services.

“Through Education 5.0, we want these learners to do more than memories, we want them to research, to innovate and to create solutions for their communities. This laboratory is the engine room where that transformation begins, and I call upon the community, parents and teachers to safeguard it so that it serves generations to come,” he said.

Representing the school leadership, the School Development Committee (SDC), teachers, learners, parents and the wider Gosha community expressed gratitude to Hon. Jere for the support that has brought the project to a critical stage of progress. They said the money being invested in education infrastructure today is building the future of coming generations.

Gosha Secondary School is now close to acquiring a facility that will enhance learning, research, innovation and learner capability, a development whose value goes beyond the building itself, as it plants knowledge, talent and opportunity in the children of Murewa West.
