Read E-PaperThe mobile network operator’s programme covers Chinhoyi, Bindura, Harare’s central business district, Chitungwiza, Harare North, Bulawayo, Zvishavane, Mutare and Masvingo.
The November activities form part of a broader commitment to extend environmental action to all provinces and increase community participation in responsible waste management.
In Harare’s central business district, NetOne is scheduled to join the Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, other sector players, the City of Harare and the Environmental Management Agency.
The exercise will bring together businesses and public institutions to clean shared spaces used by workers, traders, residents and visitors.
NetOne’s participation supports the national cleanliness agenda championed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the environmental advocacy of First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, who serves as Environment Patron.
The First Lady has encouraged communities to treat cleanliness as a daily responsibility, extending environmental action beyond the monthly campaign.
The programme also highlights the connection between environmental management and tourism. Clean streets, well-maintained public spaces and properly managed waste contribute to the experience visitors have beyond Zimbabwe’s established tourist attractions.
For communities, the campaign provides an opportunity to address litter while encouraging businesses, residents and institutions to take greater responsibility for their surroundings.
NetOne Public Relations Manager Ernest Magadzire previously said the company’s national development role extended beyond telecommunications.
“As NetOne marks 30 years of connecting Zimbabwe, the organisation remains committed to ensuring that its contribution to national development extends beyond digital connectivity.”
His remarks were made in a previously published account of the company’s community activities.
In Bulawayo, churches operating under the Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations have invited NetOne’s regional leadership to mark the first anniversary of their clean-up drive on Friday, November 6.
A concluding meeting is proposed for the City Hall Car Park between 10am and 10.30am, with corporate-sector remarks from NetOne alongside contributions from environmental and local government stakeholders.
The company says its wider provincial ambitions are intended to broaden participation beyond the capital, with the November programme forming part of that effort.
Sustaining the campaign’s impact will depend on continued waste management and community involvement after the organised exercises, supporting cleaner surroundings for residents, businesses and tourists.
