Read E-PaperIn a letter dated 7 October and received by the Ministry of Local Government on Thursday, the faction notified Local Government Minister Daniel Garwe that Coltart, who represents Ward 4, had ceased to be a member of the party.
The faction requested the minister to act in accordance with Section 129(1)(k) of the Constitution.
The recall comes amid ongoing divisions within the opposition party and follows months of uncertainty over Coltart’s political future.
According to journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, reports of a possible recall had previously been dismissed by Sengezo Tshabangu, who told CITE that he had no plans to remove the mayor and questioned the faction’s authority to do so under the Urban Councils Act.
Chin’ono also reported that the faction recalled Bulawayo Senator Ivumile Kucaca Phulu, Bulawayo Central MP Surrender Kapoikilu, Mbizo MP Corban Madzivanyika and Epworth North MP Togarepi Zivai Mhetu through separate letters addressed to Parliament.
The latest development adds to a series of recalls involving CCC representatives since October 2023, which have affected the opposition party’s representation in Parliament and local authorities.
