The competition provided young athletes with an opportunity to showcase their skills, gain competitive experience and develop their interest in judo.

One of the standout performers was Makanakaishe Nherera, who is set to represent Zimbabwe at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. Nherera secured a silver medal in the 70+kg category.

The event was also attended by Zimbabwe Olympic Committee president Thabani Gonye, highlighting the importance of supporting sporting initiatives that give young athletes opportunities to grow and compete.

The tournament focused on introducing children and young people to competitive judo, helping them build discipline, confidence and the skills needed to progress to higher levels of the sport.

Grassroots competitions play an important role in identifying emerging talent and preparing athletes for national and international events.

Through initiatives such as the Japanese Ambassador’s Judo Cup, organisers aim to strengthen the development of judo in Zimbabwe and create opportunities for the next generation of athletes to excel.

The event also highlighted the value of continued support for youth sport as Zimbabwe seeks to develop future champions and improve its presence on the international sporting stage.
