Man Wins $40M Lottery After Divorce, Ex-Wife Demands Half

Judge Monroe has dismissed Diana Taylor’s claim for half of her former husband Mark Taylor’s $40 million lottery winnings after ruling that the winning ticket was purchased after their divorce was finalised.

Diana told the court that Mark bought the ticket using their shared account and argued that the winnings should be treated as marital property. She also said she supported Mark during their seven-year marriage and sacrificed her career while he pursued his ambitions.

Mark disputed the claim, saying their divorce was finalised at 9 a.m. on October 7. He presented a receipt showing that he purchased the lottery ticket at about 12:30 p.m. that day.

Mark also filed a $2,500 countersuit, seeking compensation for personal expenses, including legal consultation, which he described as a response to what he considered an unnecessary case.

Judge Monroe rejected the countersuit, saying it appeared to be an attempt at revenge.

The judge ruled that the lottery winnings belonged to Mark because the ticket was purchased after the divorce and dismissed both claims.
