A political recruitment storm is sweeping across Mashonaland East, with a Zanu PF-affiliated organisation asserts to have flipped more than 100 opposition members, including former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators, in just two weeks.

The organisation, Chengawose Hapana Nhanga Risina Mhodzi, led by its provincial patron Dr Cloepas Kundiona, has launched what insiders describe as a “whirlwind” mobilisation drive across the province’s eight districts, targeting CCC structures and disgruntled opposition figures.

Dr Kundiona confirmed the recruitment surge, framing it as a grassroots stampede back to the ruling party.

“We have registered over 100 former opposition members, including former Members of Parliament from the CCC, in the past fortnight alone, and this is not a coincidence, it is a direct response to the tangible development projects being delivered by the Second Republic under President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” Dr Kundiona said.

He said the organisation’s mission was to dismantle opposition strongholds through persuasion rather than coercion, citing food security, infrastructure and social protection programmes as the magnet drawing people back.

“The successful projects that have been implemented by the Government under the leadership of President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa-from roads and dams to clinics and schools-are there for everyone to see and it is these visible deliverables that are convincing people to join Zanu PF in their thousands,” Dr Kundiona said.

“Our motive is simple and patriotic, to bring unity across Mashonaland East so that every ward, every village and every household rallies behind President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 and the successful implementation of the National Development Strategy 2,” he said.

The recruitments, which the organisation says were conducted voluntarily and documented, come as Zanu PF intensifies its restructuring and membership verification exercises nationwide.

Political analysts say the defections could reshape the provincial political arithmetic in a region that has traditionally shown pockets of CCC support in the province’s urban areas.

Dr Kundiona dismissed suggestions that the drive was a paper exercise, insisting the new members had been formally processed and would participate in party programmes.

“These are real people with real grievances who have seen that the Second Republic delivers, and we are not stopping here-we are taking this programme to every corner of the province until Mashonaland East speaks with one voice for development,” he said.

“We are building a province where politics serves the people, not the other way round and I can assure you that by the time this programme concludes, the opposition will have no foothold left in Mashonaland East,” Dr Kundiona added.
