The borehole was officially handed over to the community on Thursday, November 5, 2026, as part of a community development initiative linked to the club’s success in the 2026 Castle Lager Challenge Cup.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Delta Beverages Lagers General Manager Lucky Nkunzane said the project was intended to ensure that the club’s achievements on the field also translated into meaningful benefits for the community.

Under the Castle Lager Challenge Cup initiative, the winning team was given an opportunity to identify a community project for Delta Beverages to support as part of its prize.

Nkunzane said Scottland FC had chosen a project that would help improve access to clean water for residents of Mabvuku.

He described the handover as an example of how sport, business and communities could work together to promote development and create a lasting social impact.

Nkunzane also urged residents to take responsibility for maintaining the facility to ensure it remains functional and benefits the wider community for years to come.

He said the success of the initiative would ultimately be measured by the borehole’s continued ability to serve families rather than the handover ceremony itself.

The Delta Beverages official congratulated Scottland FC for selecting a project that directly addresses a community need and acknowledged the contributions of the Premier Soccer League, community leaders and other stakeholders who helped make the initiative possible.

The handover was attended by Mabvuku-Tafara legislator Pedzai Sakupwanya, PSL chief executive officer Rodwell Thabe, Delta Beverages representatives, Scottland FC leadership and members of the local community.

The initiative reflects Castle Lager’s continued involvement in football and community development, using the sport’s reach to support projects beyond the playing field.
