The reigning champions are scheduled to face CAPS United at Rufaro Stadium this afternoon in a fixture that could have major implications for Scottland’s title defence.

The allegations emerged after an audio recording circulated in which a person identifying herself as Bridget allegedly spoke to someone said to be a CAPS United player about approaching the club’s goalkeeper to manipulate the result.

However, Scottland say they have no employee or associate known as Bridget and have challenged the authenticity of the claims.

The club also pointed out that its owner, Pedzai Sakupwanya, is currently outside the country, disputing suggestions that he could have met anyone to arrange an alleged approach to a CAPS United player.

A member of the Scottland executive described the allegations as an attempt to tarnish the club’s image.

“It’s a sick attempt to soil Scottland’s good image and sheer organisation,” the executive said.

“It’s very unfortunate that rivals go to such an extreme of not only tarnishing the image of Scottland but the whole brand of the league just because a team is better than them.

“As a team we are waiting for authorities, if the case has been reported, to investigate and we see where the whole problem lies.

“We believe this is a calculated move to undermine confidence in our establishment and have us seen in negative light.”

The club also questioned why no formal complaint had been made to the relevant authorities, given the seriousness of the allegations.

“What is questionable is why there has not been an official complaint for investigations to commence given the magnitude of the allegations?” the executive added.

There have also been suggestions that the recording could have been staged as part of an alleged attempt to extort Scottland officials. However, the authenticity of the audio and the circumstances surrounding its circulation have not been independently established.

Scottland and CAPS United are yet to comment publicly on any formal investigation into the allegations.

The match comes at a crucial stage of the season, with Scottland seeking to defend their league title. The club has also enjoyed a strong record against CAPS United since joining the top-flight league last year.

The allegations remain unproven, and any claims of attempted match manipulation would need to be established through an investigation by the relevant authorities.
