President Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged the private sector to invest in Zimbabwe’s cultural and creative economy, citing cultural tourism, creative industries, events and cultural exports as priority areas.
Speaking in Harare, Mnangagwa said Zimbabweans in the country and in the diaspora are establishing community based tourism products focused on heritage and cuisine.
“I applaud Zimbabweans including those in the diaspora who are establishing community based tourism products that advance our heritage and cuisines. Culture is good for business.”. He said
Mnangagwa said the areas named “remain priority cost areas that are pertinent for investment.” He called on the corporate world to partner with customers and invest in the cultural and creative economy sector.
“Synergies in this regard must see us create a new infrastructure for increased professionalization, skills training and creation of economic opportunities for our talented youth,” he said.
The statement outlines the government’s position on expanding the role of the cultural and creative sectors in employment and economic activity.
