President Emmerson Mnangagwa has met United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres in New York to discuss issues affecting Africa and other developing countries.

The discussions focused on Africa’s role in global affairs, climate change, water security, international peace and reform of global institutions.
Mnangagwa said African countries should speak with one voice when engaging on global issues.
“Our message was clear: we come not merely as individual nations, but as one unified voice for Africa,” he said.
The President also called for reforms to the international financial system and global governance structures to give developing countries a greater role in decision-making.
He said more funding was needed to help African countries deal with the effects of climate change.
Water security was also discussed, with Mnangagwa saying Africa could play a bigger role in finding solutions for countries facing water shortages.
He also highlighted the importance of involving women in efforts to promote peace and called for greater efforts to end conflicts around the world.
“True global peace and sustainable development cannot be achieved until the international financial architecture and global governance systems are structurally reformed to support developing nations fairly,” Mnangagwa said.
Mnangagwa thanked Guterres for recognising Zimbabwe’s “principled voice” on international issues.
He said African countries would continue working together to promote development, fairness and a stronger role for the continent in global affairs.
The meeting formed part of Mnangagwa’s engagements in New York during the UN General Assembly.
