Makandiwa made the announcement during a live Sunday service held at UFIC’s Basilica in Chitungwiza. He said the President had instructed him to begin preparations for the project and submit quotations for the required building materials.

“Start the work, find the materials that are needed, bring me the quotations, and I will pay US$2 million in my own personal capacity,” Makandiwa quoted Mnangagwa as saying.

The proposed church is expected to accommodate about 10,000 worshippers.

Makandiwa also expressed gratitude to businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife for contributing US$1 million towards the project. He further acknowledged the couple’s reported gifts of three luxury vehicles to him and his wife, Ruth: a 2026 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge facelift, a 2026 Mercedes-AMG G63 G-Wagon and a 2026 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600. Makandiwa described the vehicles as an anniversary present.

UFIC spokesperson Pastor Prime Kufakunesu said the church was deeply appreciative of the support. Kufakunesu was appointed to the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe board by Mnangagwa last week.

“This is beyond what words can explain. You saw how the people rejoiced; it shows their joy and gratitude for what the First Family has done for us as a church,” he said.

Kufakunesu said the church remained open to additional contributions from individuals and organisations willing to support the construction project.

“The door is still open for all those who would like to partner with the project and contribute to the work that the President of the nation has already supported,” he said.
