Read E-PaperAddressing the 132nd Ordinary Session of the ZANU PF Central Committee in Harare on Thursday, President Mnangagwa said young people had an important role to play as Zimbabwe works towards Vision 2030.
He said youths should understand the country’s history and the responsibilities that came with independence.
“The current crop of young people should, therefore, defend the gains of the liberation struggle through knowledge acquisition, innovation, sustained patriotism, increased productivity and profound service,” he said.
Cde Mnangagwa said modern technologies, artificial intelligence and new production methods were creating new opportunities for Zimbabwe’s development.
“Our hard-won independence must be consolidated by the new frontier of socio-economic development represented through modern technologies, AI, advanced production models, out-of-the-box policies and a liberated mindset,” he said.
He also urged the Party to build structures that can respond to the changing needs of young people and the wider population.
At the same time, President called for stronger grassroots structures, saying Provincial Coordinating Committees, District Coordinating Committees, branches and cells should remain active.
“It is at these grassroots levels that the Party’s political heartbeat should be felt,” he said.
On agriculture, he said Government was preparing for the 2026/2027 summer cropping season through expanded irrigation, early warning systems, grain security measures and support for vulnerable communities.
“No Zimbabwean should go hungry,” he said.
He also called for increased water harvesting, research into drought-resistant crops and the adoption of modern farming methods.
“Climate-proofing agriculture is no longer optional but a critical national priority,” Cde Mnangagwa said.
On the economy, President said mining, MSMEs, investment, value addition and beneficiation remained important to creating jobs and retaining value within Zimbabwe.
He said the upcoming COMESA chairmanship should also be used to create economic opportunities for Zimbabweans and businesses.
President Mnangagwa further called for the implementation of ZANU PF resolutions across Party and Government structures.
“Given the Party’s supremacy over Government, officials deployed by ZANU PF must faithfully implement Party policies, programmes and Resolutions,” he said.
He concluded by urging Zimbabweans to combine unity, hard work, innovation and discipline in advancing national development.
“Let our words be matched by action,” President Mnangagwa said.
