Read E-PaperAddressing delegates at the party’s National People’s Conference in Chinhoyi, Muchinguri-Kashiri said the gathering provided an opportunity for members to reflect on past performance, learn from their experiences and find ways to improve the implementation of government programmes.
“The objective of our gathering is to retrace, to introspect and also to take stock of the performance of our ZANU-PF-led government and ruling party across our economic and social sectors for the betterment of our people,” she said.
She urged party members to acknowledge their mistakes and take corrective measures to ensure that government policies and programmes deliver tangible benefits to citizens.
“A conference is also a platform to learn, to accept and correct our mistakes and to always improve,” she said.
Muchinguri-Kashiri also expressed gratitude to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the party leadership for their support and guidance during preparations for the conference, which is being held in Mashonaland West Province.
“Your Excellency, we are deeply indebted to you and the party leadership for your unwavering, consistent support, astute guidance and revolutionary leadership,” she said.
She commended the National Conference Coordinating Committee and Mashonaland West provincial structures for their role in organising the gathering, saying their combined efforts had helped facilitate preparations for the event.
“Your support and guidance galvanised the collective determination of the National Conference Coordinating Committee, with Mashonaland West, to lead those who intend and do their best to deliver a successful conference,” she said.
The party chairperson said this year’s conference also provided an opportunity to examine progress in implementing party resolutions and translating political commitments into practical results.
“Your Excellency, today’s event is an event with a difference, because you were able to turn resolutions and commitments into favourable results that improved the lives of our people,” she said.
She pointed to the enactment of Resolution Number One into law as one of the developments marking the country’s transition from the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) to the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).
“In particular, we successfully sent Resolution Number One to the community as law, Your Excellency,” she said.
Muchinguri-Kashiri said the transition to NDS2 was important in advancing Zimbabwe’s long-term development agenda and its ambition to attain upper-middle-income economy status by 2030.
“This is a critical development since we transitioned from NDS1 to NDS2, making it possible for us to have a free society by the 2030s,” she said.
Her remarks placed the implementation of party resolutions, accountability and improved government performance at the centre of the conference deliberations, as ZANU-PF seeks to align its political commitments with the country’s broader development objectives.
