During the presentation, Musk attributed the vehicle’s aerial manoeuvres to a system incorporating altitude controls, thrusters and additional propulsion units at the rear.
He acknowledged that the car was not necessarily designed with maximum safety as its primary focus, describing it as a vehicle built to push the limits of driving excitement.
Musk had previously suggested that the redesigned Roadster would have flying capabilities, revealing last year that he wanted to develop a vehicle that could take off.
The latest demonstration took place at SpaceX’s testing facility in McGregor, where the billionaire appeared to bring that ambition closer to reality.
The Roadster is Tesla’s original sports car model, although production of the first-generation vehicle ended in 2012.
