A Chinhoyi man who masqueraded as a Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) officer at a police roadblock in Gweru has been sentenced to five months’ imprisonment.

Chulungu was arrested on 29 September 2026 after he misrepresented himself as a ZACC officer to Zimbabwe Republic Police officers manning a roadblock in Gweru. Suspicious officers who had stopped his vehicle for inspection contacted ZACC to verify his identity and discovered he was an imposter.
“Police officers who stopped his vehicle for inspection contacted ZACC to verify Chulungu’s identity and discovered that he was an imposter. “ZACC officers proceeded to the scene and arrested Chulungu. At the time of arrest, officers found a pair of handcuffs and a Zimbabwe National Anti-Corruption Organisation (ZANACO) identification card in his vehicle,” said ZACC.
The court found that Chulungu is a member of ZANACO, where he works as an informer, a fact that did not shield him from prosecution.
“The court found that Chulungu is a member of ZANACO where he works as an informer,” the statement read. “He was convicted on 30 September 2026 by Gweru Magistrate Arafat Kozanai and sentenced to five months’ imprisonment.”
The conviction sends a clear warning against the abuse of anti-corruption credentials, with ZACC reaffirming that impersonating its officers carries serious consequences.
