Glen View Couple Found Dead After Infidelity Dispute

HARARE — Police have launched investigations into the deaths of a Glen View couple whose bodies were discovered in their bedroom on Wednesday, amid claims that relationship problems had troubled the marriage.

Nyasha Mhungu, 36, and his wife Olga Muzhingi, 31, were found dead at their home after reportedly seeking counselling from their church leader earlier in the day.

Investigators recovered several items from the bedroom, including an axe, a shambok, a blood-stained stool, Olga’s cellphone and other exhibits that could assist in determining what happened.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear, and police are expected to rely on post-mortem examinations and evidence gathered from the scene to establish the cause of death.

Neighbours claimed the couple had been experiencing marital problems linked to allegations of infidelity.

One neighbour alleged that Nyasha had confronted a man suspected of having a relationship with Olga and assaulted him, resulting in the man being admitted to hospital.

The neighbour further claimed that Nyasha later confronted Olga over the same allegations.

“As we speak, the suspected lover is admitted at hospital after he was assaulted by Nyasha,” the neighbour said.

The neighbour also said the couple had previously approached the police over their domestic disputes before their church leader became involved.

Nyasha reportedly spent much of Tuesday receiving counselling from Apostle Hardlow Chikaka of Baptism of Fire International Ministries.

According to police sources, the couple had sought counselling only hours before their deaths.

Family members also told investigators that the couple had experienced unresolved disagreements, including issues surrounding lobola.

Olga’s brother, Nebert Muzhingi, said the family was shocked by the deaths, describing the couple as generally peaceful despite having occasional marital disagreements.

“We were informed by one of their children and rushed there at around 0600 hours. We found the two dead, while the child had indicated that she saw her father vomiting,” Muzhingi said.

He said the family had lost two people who were dedicated to their church activities.

The couple’s six-year-old daughter was reportedly the first person to enter the bedroom in the early hours of Wednesday.

A relative said the girl had earlier sought refuge with her parents after being disciplined by her grandmother over her blankets.

She reportedly entered the bedroom and saw her father vomiting before returning to her grandmother and raising the alarm.

Police secured the scene and removed the bodies for post-mortem examinations.

The deaths come amid several recent cases involving couples and allegations of domestic violence and infidelity in Harare.

Earlier this month, Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission commissioner Martin Muduva was killed at his home in Dzivarasekwa, with his wife, Lyliosa Chirara, later dying by suicide. The incident was reportedly linked to disputes involving his marriage.

In another recent case, Hatfield man Stephen Sarurai appeared in court facing allegations of murdering his wife, Zvikomborero Tari, following a dispute reportedly linked to infidelity.

The State alleges that Sarurai assaulted Tari before strangling her with a shoelace. She was taken to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Sarurai was remanded in custody to October 2 and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

In the Glen View case, police investigations are continuing and no conclusions have been made about how Nyasha and Olga died.
