President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Thursday received Letters of Credence from the newly appointed ambassadors-designate of Mauritania, Bangladesh and Peru during separate ceremonies held at State House in Harare.

The presentation of credentials formally accredits the diplomats to represent their respective countries in Zimbabwe and marks a step towards strengthening bilateral relations.

President Mnangagwa first received credentials from Mr. Amedi Camara, Ambassador-Designate of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

The ceremony underscored the continued diplomatic engagement between Zimbabwe and Mauritania as the two nations seek to deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The President also received Letters of Credence from Mr. Shah Ahmed Shafi, Ambassador-Designate of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

Speaking after the ceremony, Ambassador Shafi highlighted the longstanding ties between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, noting that diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1981.

He revealed that Bangladesh plans to open an embassy in Harare in the near future as part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic and economic cooperation.

Ambassador Shafi said Bangladesh was keen to explore opportunities for collaboration in the textile and garment manufacturing sector, as well as in pharmaceutical production, industries in which the Asian nation has developed significant expertise.

Later, President Mnangagwa received credentials from Mr. Jose Javier Augusto Shaw, Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Peru, further expanding Zimbabwe’s diplomatic engagement with South American nations.

The accreditation of the three diplomats comes as Zimbabwe continues to pursue enhanced international cooperation, trade and investment partnerships under its engagement and re-engagement policy.

The newly accredited ambassadors are expected to work closely with the Zimbabwean government to advance bilateral relations and identify areas for increased cooperation between their respective countries and Zimbabwe.
