He made the remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony for the university’s new main campus, which he said would reflect Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage.

“Today, I was honoured to officiate the groundbreaking ceremony for Great Zimbabwe University’s state-of-the-art Main Campus.

Inspired by our historic Great Zimbabwe Monument, this new campus will stand as a magnificent architectural symbol of our national identity, serving as the university’s permanent administrative and cultural home,” President Mnangagwa said.

The president said the university was supporting national development through projects that put research into practical use under the Education 5.0 philosophy.

“Under our Education 5.0 philosophy, GZU is successfully shifting from traditional academia into tangible industrial solutions that directly uplift our communities,” he said.

Among the projects is a traditional grain milling plant called Guyo Rokwa Chivi at the university’s Innovation Centre of Excellence in Dryland Agriculture in Chivi.

The plant, developed in partnership with the Grain Marketing Board (GMB), has achieved a grain recovery rate of more than 90 percent for commercial meal production.

The project aims to connect farmers with processing facilities and markets, helping to promote local production and value addition.

GZU is also researching ways to incorporate traditional medicines into mainstream healthcare.

The university has developed the Madzimbahwe LifeTap Smart ID, an affordable diagnostic and payment solution intended to improve access to medical services for rural families, informal workers and schoolchildren.

In technology, the university has developed LogiTruck, an online platform designed to improve transport and logistics operations.

Another project, Psyche Me Up, uses interactive games to teach students in rural and urban areas about mental health.

President Mnangagwa said the projects showed how universities could use innovation and local knowledge to address the country’s challenges.

“This is the Zimbabwe we are building—one driven by innovation, heritage, and production. Congratulations to Great Zimbabwe University for leading from the front,” he added.
