Speaking at the launch, President Mnangagwa said the programme would serve as Zimbabwe’s strategic roadmap for promoting transparent and accountable leadership while driving the country’s socio-economic transformation.

“This programme will serve as Zimbabwe’s strategic roadmap for promoting transparent, accountable leadership and driving socio-economic transformation,” President Mnangagwa said.

He added that the initiative reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to strengthening governance systems and improving the lives of its citizens through inclusive and sustainable development.

The President emphasized that the success of the programme would depend on the collective efforts of all stakeholders, saying collaboration remained essential to achieving its objectives.

“Collective effort remains the foundation of the programme’s success,” he said.

President Mnangagwa also expressed confidence in the leadership of Uganda, which currently chairs the APRM Forum, saying the mechanism would continue making meaningful progress in advancing good governance and development across Africa.

He further extended his appreciation to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni for supporting Zimbabwe’s successful bid to secure a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

President Mnangagwa said the growing partnership between Zimbabwe and Uganda would strengthen bilateral relations while helping to amplify Africa’s voice on the global stage.

The African Peer Review Mechanism is a voluntary governance initiative of the African Union that enables member states to assess one another’s performance in areas such as democracy, political governance, economic management and socio-economic development, with the aim of promoting best practices and improving governance across the continent.
