An unconfirmed number of pupils from Matongo Primary School in Gweru are feared to have died after a commuter omnibus they were travelling in reportedly caught fire just outside the school on Wednesday.
Reports indicate that the vehicle was engulfed in flames shortly after arriving near the school premises. Some of the victims are believed to have been burnt beyond recognition, although the exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.
Authorities say the circumstances leading to the fire remain unclear.
Gweru Mayor Martin Chivhoko confirmed the incident but said investigations were still ongoing and further details would be released once verified.
