BREAKING: Wicknell Chivayo Gifts Dynamos F.C. New Bus And US$50K Despite Derby Defeat

Published

on

Businessman and philanthropist Wicknell Chivayo has announced that he will still donate a brand-new 65-seater bus and US$50,000 to Dynamos F.C. despite the club’s defeat to rivals CAPS United F.C. over the weekend.

In a statement following the highly anticipated Harare Derby, Chivayo congratulated CAPS United for their victory, describing the match as “sporting excellence at play” and saying football should celebrate “competition and the beauty of the game.”

Before the match, Chivayo had promised during an interview on Capitalk FM that he would buy Dynamos a new bus if they defeated CAPS United. However, after Dynamos lost, he said he was surprised by the ridicule and mockery that followed his promise.

Chivayo said his support for Dynamos goes beyond football, noting that many of his relatives and friends support the club. He described Dynamos as “a household name and part of Zimbabwe’s football history,” adding that he would not “only stand by his word when circumstances are favourable.”

“I will still proceed with purchasing a brand-new 65-seater bus for Dynamos Football Club,” he said. “In addition, I will also give the players USD$50,000 for trying hard as motivation and encouragement despite the defeat.”

He clarified that the gesture was “not sponsorship of any sort” but an appreciation for the supporters who filled the stadium and showed genuine love for the club.

Chivayo also defended his public image, saying he is treated with respect outside Zimbabwe but often faces criticism at home. “Put some respect on my name,” he said, while calling for football to unite people and inspire healthy competition instead of hatred and division.

He instructed Dynamos management to contact his lawyer, Sikhumbuzo Mpofu, with the bus registration details so the process can begin immediately.
