Zimbabwe suffer heavy defeat as Sri Lanka revive Tri-Series hopes
Zimbabwe’s push for a place in the Tri-Series final took a major blow after a crushing nine-wicket loss to Sri Lanka in Lahore on Tuesday.
Sent in to bat, Zimbabwe failed to build on their strong start to the tournament. Brian Bennett and captain Sikandar Raza steadied the innings, but once the partnership broke, the momentum faded. Ryan Burl’s late push helped Zimbabwe reach 146/5, a total that proved far from enough.
Sri Lanka responded emphatically, with Pathum Nissanka dominating the chase. He blasted an unbeaten 98 off 58 balls, guiding his team to victory with almost four overs remaining.
Zimbabwe now rely on Pakistan to defeat Sri Lanka in Thursday’s final round-robin match, a result that would send the Chevrons into the final.
