ZPCS Boxers Shine at National Championships
The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Boxing Team proved their dominance once again after a strong showing at the Zimbabwe Boxing Federation National Championships held at City Gate Motel in Redcliff, Kwekwe, from November 7 to 8, 2025.
The team walked away with an impressive six gold medals, underlining their growing stature in the local boxing scene. Among the gold medalists were Blessing Sibanda, Ernest Ndlovu, Onesimo Sibanda, Clive Ncube, Mbongiseni Moyo, and Hildah Kaye, each displaying exceptional skill, determination, and tactical discipline in their respective bouts.
The competition attracted top amateur boxers from across the country, making ZPCS Bulawayo’s achievement a remarkable statement of strength and preparation.
Rising star Blessing Sibanda, who was among the standout performers, is now preparing for an international showdown in Dubai this December, where he will represent Zimbabwe in the minimum weight division. His upcoming fight is seen as a major opportunity to showcase Zimbabwe’s boxing talent on the global stage.
The victorious team was guided by coaches Steven Masiyambumbi, Marko Sibanda, and Artwell Rungwanda, who praised their boxers for maintaining focus and discipline throughout the tournament.
Officials said the success was a reflection of ZPCS’s broader commitment to nurturing sporting excellence within its ranks. The institution continues to use sport as a platform for building character, promoting fitness, and strengthening teamwork among officers and athletes.
The championship performance not only cements ZPCS Bulawayo’s position among the top boxing teams in Zimbabwe but also signals a promising future for the country’s correctional service sports development programme.
