The secret relationship between Midlands State University (MSU) acting Director of Enterprise Patience Mangwiro and Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission Commissioner Martin Muduhwa took a tragic turn after the pair reportedly held a private Roora Day ceremony at the weekend.
Muduhwa, who had allegedly been in a five-year extra-marital relationship with Mangwiro, reportedly paid lobola for her. The two are also said to have a child together.
On Monday, Muduhwa reportedly posted a photograph from the Roora Day ceremony on his WhatsApp status before later deleting it.
However, the post had already been seen by some people.
Mangwiro is also alleged to have shared some photographs from the ceremony on social media.
Shortly afterwards, tragedy struck in Dzivarasekwa.
Muduhwa was allegedly attacked with an axe three times while he was asleep by his wife, Lyliosa Chirara, who later died after reportedly ingesting rat poison.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the MSU community, with students expressing sadness over the deaths.
“We have been saddened by the death of these two people,” said a student at the university.
“Mangwiro recently paraded some of her lobola day photographs on social media bragging of the marriage.
“This is so sad.”
Mangwiro’s first marriage reportedly ended before she began her relationship with Muduhwa.
The tragic events have since brought renewed attention to the circumstances surrounding the couple’s long-running relationship and the events that followed their reported Roora Day ceremony.
