Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission Commissioner Dr Martin Muduva died at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals on Wednesday after sustaining serious injuries in a suspected domestic violence incident.
The incident occurred at the couple’s home in Dzivarasekwa Extension, Harare, on Tuesday night.
Preliminary accounts allege that Muduva was attacked with an axe and that his wife subsequently ingested a poisonous substance. Both were taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for treatment.
His wife reportedly died on Tuesday night, while Muduva succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning.
Police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the two deaths. A detailed official statement confirming the sequence of events and possible motive had not been released at the time of publication.
Muduva joined the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission in December 2024. He had extensive experience in data science, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
