Four Highlanders Football Club supporters who died in a road accident near Filabusi will be buried today following a joint funeral service in the area.
Fanuel Murindi, Fortune Dube, Emmanuel Chirwa and Zaina Sibanda are expected to be laid to rest at a community graveyard immediately after the service.
Another victim, Busani Moyo, was buried on Thursday at Luveve Cemetery in Bulawayo after a church service held at Doves Funeral Services. Funeral arrangements for Christina Zikhali, the sixth Highlanders supporter killed in the accident, are still pending.
Highlanders has continued to support the affected families and has conveyed its condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased. The club said it would release details of Zikhali’s funeral once the arrangements had been finalised.
The supporters died last Sunday, approximately 15 kilometres from Amazon Shopping Centre along the Filabusi Road. Their NV350 commuter omnibus collided with a stationary tipper truck, before a Honda Fit struck the wreckage.
Four other people survived the crash and were taken to hospital for treatment.
The victims had been travelling back to Filabusi after attending Highlanders’ match against Herentals at Barbourfields Stadium earlier that day.
The six funerals have been granted State assistance, as the Highlanders community continues to mourn the loss of its supporters.
