The High Court ruling overturned an earlier decision by Harare Regional Magistrate Francis Mapfumo, who had refused to grant bail after ruling that Tafirenyika could be a flight risk because of her alleged access to substantial financial resources.
The case follows her arrest on August 4, 2026, when detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics Unit reportedly searched her Greystone Park home. She was subsequently charged with unlawful possession of pethidine, morphine and unregistered medicines.
She was later granted US$1,000 bail by the High Court on August 20 in relation to the drug-related charges. However, she was immediately arrested again over separate money laundering allegations.
Prosecutors allege that Tafirenyika acquired 22 luxury properties and vehicles worth more than US$9.3 million using proceeds allegedly linked to illegal drug activities.
Her lawyers challenged the State’s opposition to bail, disputing claims that she was likely to flee the country. They also argued that the assets under investigation were legitimate matrimonial property rather than proceeds of crime.
The latest High Court decision now allows Tafirenyika to remain out of custody while the matter proceeds through the courts.
