Read E-PaperAccording to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the offence occurred on 15 November 2025 when the victim was returning home after visiting a neighbouring village.
“On the 15th of November 2025 at around 1700 hours, the victim was on her way home after visiting a neighboring village when the offender lured her into his house claiming that he wanted to discuss an issue with her,” the NPAZ said.
After entering the house, the offender proposed a romantic relationship to the victim, but she refused. He then forcibly lifted her, placed her on his bed, and threatened to bite her if she screamed before raping her.
“The offender lowered his trousers and raped the victim, initially using protection before continuing without protection,” the authority said.
The man later locked the victim inside the room and briefly left to fetch water before returning and raping her again.
At about 9pm, he took the victim towards her homestead but changed the route after finding her family members still awake. He instead ordered her to sleep at her uncle’s house, where she spent the night outside the kitchen unnoticed.
“The following day, the victim disclosed the incident to a fellow villager, who subsequently reported the matter to the police, leading to the offender’s arrest and subsequent conviction,” the NPAZ said.
The report resulted in the man’s arrest and prosecution before the Mutare Regional Court, which subsequently sentenced him to an effective 17 years’ imprisonment.
The prosecution authority said it remained committed to pursuing sexual offences and protecting vulnerable people.
“Sexual violence is a serious criminal offence, and perpetrators will be held accountable in accordance with the law,” the NPAZ said.
