Moonlight Cancer Trust will host a half marathon and charity run in Harare on Saturday as part of efforts to promote cancer awareness and mobilise public support for people affected by the disease.
The event, running under the theme, “Walking the Mile Together: Every Step Counts, Every Life Matters,” will take place at Falcon Golf Club in Hatfield, starting at 6:30am on September 5, 2026.
Participants will pay a US$20 registration fee per person.
The charity run is expected to bring together athletes, fitness enthusiasts, cancer survivors, families and members of the public in a demonstration of solidarity with people fighting cancer.
Beyond testing physical endurance, organisers are positioning the event as a platform for encouraging early cancer detection, supporting affected families and strengthening public discussion around the disease.
Cancer remains a major public-health challenge, with many patients facing difficulties accessing screening, treatment, medication and long-term care. Delayed diagnosis can reduce the effectiveness of treatment, making awareness programmes and early screening increasingly important.
The half marathon will be complemented by entertainment and fitness activities. Sir Charles Fitness will lead a Zumba session, while the Gweru Runners Band will provide a cheer bus during the event.
The participation of fitness and entertainment groups is expected to create an inclusive programme that accommodates both competitive runners and members of the public interested in supporting the cause.
The event also seeks to demonstrate how sport can be used to advance public-health awareness. Running and other forms of regular physical activity can support general well-being, while organised sporting events provide opportunities for communities to discuss illnesses that are sometimes surrounded by fear, misinformation and stigma.
Moonlight Cancer Trust is encouraging individuals, companies, sporting clubs and community organisations to participate in the initiative.
