HARARE — The Vendors 4 ED Association has pledged its support for the Government’s drive to transform Zimbabwe’s urban areas into clean and smart cities in line with Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).
In a statement, the association said it fully supported President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s directive to modernise cities through the use of smart technologies and sustainable practices.
“We are compliant. We are committed. We are ready,” the association said.
The organisation said it had registered more than 150,000 informal traders across the country and was committed to constructing vendor malls in every province.
According to the association, the proposed malls will provide dignified trading spaces, storage facilities, sanitation services and access to financial services for vendors.
It also said its activities were aligned with NDS2 and the Government’s zero-tolerance approach to disorderly urban trading.
The association positioned informal traders as active participants in the country’s development agenda, saying vendors were “not spectators in Vision 2030” but partners in national development.
“A clean, smart Zimbabwe is good for business, good for health, and good for our future,” the statement said.
The association concluded by reaffirming its commitment to supporting cleaner urban environments and orderly trading spaces under the slogan: “We comply. We clean. We build.”
