President Mnangagwa Calls for Unity and Self-Reliance on Africa Day

President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has called on African countries to strengthen unity, embrace innovation and pursue self-reliance as the continent commemorated Africa Day.

In his Africa Day message, President Mnangagwa joined other African leaders and citizens in celebrating the occasion while urging nations across the continent to continue promoting “African solutions to African problems.”

The President said African countries must increasingly depend on their own knowledge, innovation and resources to address challenges facing the continent and achieve sustainable development.

He highlighted the important role being played by universities, researchers, innovators and young people in driving industrialisation, economic growth and technological advancement in Africa.

President Mnangagwa also stressed the need for stronger cooperation among African nations in order to achieve peace, prosperity and the goals of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

The President placed special emphasis on water security, describing water as essential for Africa’s development and future growth.

“Water is the lifeblood of Africa’s development aspirations,” he said.

He further encouraged Africans to preserve their heritage, promote unity and work together towards building a prosperous and self-sufficient continent.

Africa Day is commemorated annually on May 25 to mark the founding of the Organization of African Unity in 1963, now known as the African Union. The day celebrates African liberation, unity, culture and development.
