President Emmerson Mnangagwa today officially opened Davipel Holdings’ new headquarters and commissioned the company’s Agri-Milling Stockfeeds Plant and Snack Manufacturing Plant in Sunway City, Harare.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Industry and Commerce, Honourable Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndhlovu, described the occasion as a milestone for Zimbabwe’s industrialisation journey and praised the company for investing in the country’s economy.
“Today’s official opening of the new headquarters of Davipel Holdings and commissioning of the Agri-Milling Stockfeeds Plant and the Snack Manufacturing Plant is a celebration of enterprise resilience, innovation and confidence in Zimbabwe,” said Minister Ndlovu.
“We are celebrating the success of Zimbabweans who have chosen to invest at home, create jobs and build industries that will serve generations to come.”
The minister commended President Mnangagwa for creating a stable investment environment, saying the Second Republic’s policies continue to inspire confidence among local and international investors.
He said Zimbabwe’s manufacturing sector has recorded significant growth under the current administration.
“Our manufacturing and commercial sectors are back, better and now demonstrating renewed resilience, deeper value chain integration and, more importantly, anchored on local raw materials,” he said.
According to the minister, the manufacturing sector has grown from an estimated US$4 billion in 2018 to about US$9 billion in the first quarter of 2026, making it one of the country’s biggest contributors to Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Minister Ndhlovu said Government remains committed to industrialisation through Vision 2030, the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and the Zimbabwe National Industrial Development Policy 2 (ZNIDP2).
He also highlighted concerns over Zimbabwe’s import bill, saying the country continues to import products that could be produced locally.
“Our country continues to import approximately US$2.5 billion worth of products that can be manufactured locally. We couldn’t agree with you more, Your Excellency, that this cannot be allowed to continue under our watch,” he said.
Minister Ndhlovu also called for greater use of locally manufactured products in Government procurement.
“It is in the national interest to have preferential procurement of locally manufactured products across Government and the wider public sector,” he said.
He added that Government is also working to increase local participation in the mining sector by promoting value addition and expanding opportunities for Zimbabwean manufacturers to supply mining companies.
The official opening of Davipel Holdings’ new facilities is expected to boost local manufacturing, create employment opportunities and contribute to Zimbabwe’s drive towards becoming an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
